Kan: Associated with the mystical Feathered Serpent, Kukulkan or Quetzalcoatl, it is one of the most powerful day signs in the Cholq’ij.
As the Regent of the Sky and the Ruler of Time, Kan symbolizes the transformation of time, transcendence, peace, spiritual development and human evolution, and represents those predestined for spiritual vocations.
Yet it is also the lord of all material things and represents the concepts of work, autonomy, precaution, power, law, intelligence, and justice. As the nawal of education and training, it signifies the power that learning imparts to individuals and communities.
[Kan] embodies a powerful connection with the inner fire, called koyopa among the Maya and kundalini in Eastern traditions. –Brigitte Rasine
Diana’s Observations:
Today our life force, vitality, and transformative capacities meet with the authoritative, rectifying, and collaborative strength of 10. Kan signifies the movement, evolution, and great intelligence of life. Its evolutary force guides us towards justice, truth, and peace. 10 Kan is an ideal time for agreements and negotiations, best fueled by purposeful intentions and spiritual development.
Both Kan and Power 10 possess qualities of balance, power, and authority, influencing vigor and higher principles in our relations, commitments, and ability to offer and receive support. However, this convergence also carries the risk of coercion or seductive deception by authority figures or those to whom we have ceded our power.
Therefore, on Kan days, it's wise to trust our body’s instincts over the mind’s reasoning, making organic decisions rooted in our own deeper sensory wisdom; for instance, if an agreement looks perfect on paper but feels unsettling in your gut, this day encourages a closer, intuitive evaluation.
In essence, 10 Kan highlights the dual nature of circumstances, particularly within relationships today, potentially manifesting as either harmony or discord, clarity or manipulation. This day invites vigilance and intelligence in the contracts and agreements we forge with others, whether subtle or overt.
Within the Ajmaq Trecena, a journey from discord to harmony, today’s interactions or interventions can spark the understanding and clarity needed to advance reconciliation and self-discovery. Like a flash of lightning illuminating a darkened landscape, this day can activate greater visibility and dormant potential, helping us transcend shadows, illusions, and limitations, enhancing our personal evolution.
Observations by Mayan Spiritual Guides:
10 Kan
Kan has the ability to bring wisdom when it is wielded correctly, and this can help us to see through illusions. We might not succeed in this first time around. The strength of the Kan energy can be charming and seductive. We may be enchanted by the illusion and choose it over reality. This might be our own or that of others and today highlights community and society.
Today could be seen as a good day to use our wisdom to see through the illusions society creates. Cooperating with the people around you may bring a greater and more profound effect than usual. This is a day to honor the teachers within our communities. –Mark Elmy
10 Kan
Kan is the Ch’umil that symbolizes energy, it is the energetic movement that elevates everything to higher levels, it is energy in evolution. Its strength, which is related to the power of the Feathered Serpent, connects us to the cosmic-telluric wisdom, it reminds us that the knowledge of the Universe and the Earth are part of us.
The number Lajuj (10) brings us the teaching of the power we achieve when we move energy, it reminds us that our action or inaction, our awareness or disconnection can impel or stagnate our purposes.
This day manifests an ambivalent energy that gives us the strength we need to achieve things, but this can be accompanied by the fear of taking the first step.
Lajuj (10) Kan reminds us that our power lies in knowing that the choice is ours, that one of the best gifts we can give ourselves is that of living our life with presence and with all our energy. –Denise Barrios
Snake Spirit Animal:
“Transformation”, “Guidance in spiritual journeys”, “Healing”, “Life force”, “Strengthening of Inner Power”
The Kundalini, Ouroboros, the Aztec Quetzalcoatl, and a myriad of snake deities symbolize the creation of the inner and outer cosmos in numerous cultures.
Receiving snake medicine is akin to receiving an invitation to embark as the winds of change approach. “Bon Voyage” says the cosmos as you enter into an experience that shifts your course.
From external environment and relationships all the way up to awareness level, there is potential for change. With change comes letting go, so prepare yourself with one of the sagest of practices: detachment.
Through snake medicine, you are gently informed that soon you’ll be riding the wave of transformation so be aware and enjoy. Letting go allows fresh currents to push new creation towards you. –Brynja Magnusson
Where am I giving away my power and how can I reclaim it through embodied awareness today? What unspoken agreements are influencing my relationships, and how can I bring them into the light for honest and open discussion? What explicit or implicit contracts am I currently operating under, and are they aligned with my current values and intentions?
