Aj: Aj symbolizes the pillars of inner strength, it is the channel that connects us to the cosmos and the earth, which unites us with everything so that we flow in sync with life. It is our spine, the structures of our body, of our home, it is the energetic foundations that sustain the essence of everything, that sustain creation and our reality. –Denise Barrios
Diana’s Observations:
Aj—the nawal of the reed, the spine, and responsibility—meets the dynamic, reorganizing current of Power 11 today. While Aj stands for continuity, uprightness, and the steady growth that sustains both body and spirit, 11 unsettles these structures, shaking foundations and revealing where rigidity must yield to change. On 11 Aj, flexibility strengthens, while brittleness may crack, creating space for mastering adaptation and inviting fresh possibility.
Intensifying the shifting contrasts of the Aq’ab’al Trecena, 11 Aj elevates change to a new pitch, dissolving stagnation and presenting openings for flexibility and expansion where old patterns have hardened. The volatility of 11 is not merely disruptive—it becomes an aperture for innovation, calling forth creative energy from the unexpected. Through Aj, these forces reach into the heart of our lives—home, career, community—transforming trials into resilience and revealing our true foundation.
At its most luminous, when roots and pillars are tended with care, 11 Aj sparks fresh creativity that stretches beyond the protective shell of outdated selves, reaching toward the promise of Aq’ab’al’s renewing dawn. This energy draws us from limitation to emergence, illuminating new potential on the horizon. Yet if our foundations are unstable—if gaps or unchecked weeds remain, or boundaries are unclear—the dynamic forces of 11 expose neglected spaces, calling us to responsibly tend what we’ve overlooked.
As we care for the structures that hold peace and stability, we’re reminded that change—and even turbulence—is woven into the fabric of existence, guiding and shaping leadership through trials. When embracing and transforming life’s darker aspects into nourishment for our consciousness, true wisdom unfolds. With Aj’s gentle guidance and openness to sacred insight, this day invites the purification of both inner and outer spaces—restoring balance and harmonizing our actions with our highest principles and values.

Armadillo Spirit Animal:
The Armadillo, with its unique bony shell and habit of burrowing, was recognized in ancient Central American cultures as a master of protection, boundaries, and the realm beneath the surface.
Its natural armor made it a clear symbol of self-defense and security, representing the inner strength required to guard one’s spiritual and physical being. The armadillo’s deep connection to the Earth through its digging habits linked it to the underworld and the hidden flow of energy and resources. Its image spoke to self-containment, solitude, and the ability to thrive by establishing firm limits.
One can invoke the spirit of the Armadillo to strengthen personal boundaries and self-confidence, to practice grounding and self-care by retreating inward, and to develop cunning and resourceful ways of dealing with external threats or challenges.
Observations by Mayan Spiritual Guides:
11 Aj
The authoritative and just energy of nawal Aj combines with the directionless but powerful energy of the number 11. This may give an energy of leadership, with its focus in many different directions. It is an interesting combination of energy with the mild mannered energy of the nawal Aj combining with the highly energetic, yet meandering qualities of the 11. Perhaps this is one of the few days that can actually ground the energy of the 11 and put it to good use within the home.
It may be a distracting day when it comes to projects to nourish your community or family, starting many “important” jobs, yet not finishing them. Be assured you may be laying the groundwork for an upcoming masterpiece to sustain all.
The nawal Aj is related to many things which generally revolve around leadership on an earthly level. It is sometimes known as the cornstalk, sometimes the staff of life. It represents the spinal column within the body, that which allows us to stand tall, proud and brave. As the cornstalk, it has it’s roots in the Earth, and it’s head in the sky. As we are the people of maize, if we wish to lead in a just manner, we should cultivate our connection with the Heart of the Sky and the Heart of the Earth. –Mark Elmy

Today ended up being the perfect day to help my Mom and Stepdad choose what to keep after I unpacked all their storage in their attic. We tried to do it a few months ago, but it was too soon. Tears and arguments ensued. Today we were supported by Aj to do what was best for the community and 11 allowed them to release the old in a way that they never have before. It was such an unexpected surprise.
