Ajmaq: Its essence holds the energy of reconciliation, it is the non-judgement neither of others nor of ourselves, for the teaching it offers us is one of connection and harmonization with our inner self and with what surrounds us. It is self-discovery, returning to our interior to find the wisdom that inhabits us. It is reaching enlightenment. –Denise Barrios
Diana’s Observations:
Ajmaq, the nawal of error, introspection, and clarity, aligns with the evaluative and relational essence of Power 12 today. Ajmaq embodies wisdom, curiosity, and healing, guarding ethics and activating the power of the word to balance choices and actions. The retrospective and integrative energy of 12 supports healing through lessons, experience, and relationship errors, marking 12 Ajmaq as an ideal time to reflect, rebalance, and seek clarity in service to the light of interconnectivity and mutual support.
As the penultimate step in the evolutionary Kan Trecena, 12 Ajmaq moves to dispel fog, blindness, and illusion from our inner narratives and relationships. Its wisdom lies in uniting insights and experiences—both bitter and sweet—with the will to uphold compassionate understanding and kindness toward human error–our own of that of others. This day offers a chance to clean perceptual flaws and seek complimentary balance through advice, counsel, and meaningful dialogue aimed toward the truth and reconciliation.
Kan’s skin shedding guidance, combined with the collective mending quality of the day, highlights what we absorb and inherit from cultural, familial, and ancestral influences—shaping our filters of perception and how we relate to others. Ajmaq encourages slowing down, and a deeper introspection to discern our authentic self from social conditioning that no longer serves our individuality. Practicing self-reflection and recapitulation becomes vital for greater self-awareness and clarity in our personal development.
Carrying the essence of experience and ancestral wisdom, 12 Ajmaq awakens the teacher and wisdom keeper within each of us. Ajmaq, associated with the first candle’s light, combined with 12’s ancestral and cultural resonance, signals the burning of old karma and the guidance gathered across lifetimes of lessons. This day encapsulates the human journey from discord to clarity and mistake to renewed radiance, illuminating evolution through many individual flames sparked by the spirit of conscious exchange and service.

Bee Spirit Animal:
In the Mayan cultures, the bee spirit animal, particularly the melipona bee (known as Xunán Kab or "lady bee"), holds significant spiritual and practical importance.
Revered for its unique qualities—such as being stingless and its vital role in pollination—the melipona bee symbolizes community, cooperation, and the nurturing aspects of nature.
This connection highlights the bees' role not only in agriculture but also in spiritual practices, where their honey was used in rituals and as a source of healing. By embracing the qualities of the bee, we can navigate daily challenges with renewed purpose and a stronger connection to our community.
Observations by Mayan Spiritual Guides:
12 Ajmaq
Today can be a day of absolving past indiscretions, and helping others to release theirs. It is a day to embrace yourself for all you are, and everything that has shaped you throughout your life, a day of acceptance of the human nature of us all. This may give rise to some form of life review.Every day, we hopefully grow a little wiser and understand our less-wise decisions and actions of the past. At the time we made those decisions, we often acted on the best information we had, with our best intentions. However, looking back the result may not have been a choice we would make now.
We can use our past experience to understand why others around us may have committed errors, perhaps they are errors we too have committed in our past. Understanding this can help us to forgive them and in turn help us to release any residual burdens we carry. –Mark Elmy
12 Ajmaq
We cannot stay stuck in our past, pondering how we could have done things differently or constantly blaming ourselves for our mistakes. What we have done is behind us and we cannot go back in time to change it.Let us free ourselves from everything that does not serve us, thoughts, emotions and actions that do not allow us to move forward in our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual world.
Let us take the learning that our mistakes brought, let us create a different way of doing things, continuing to move forward on the path, continuing to grow and develop. –Denise Barrios
