Iq’: The ancient Maya were not blocked. They understood that the most essential information comes from the heart, and that the brain processes what comes from there. Iq’ speaks through vibration. When you want to know something from spirit — quiet the mind first. Let the winds blow away the noise. Hold a strong, clear intent and tap into the source of life. Stay there, in peace, in well-being. And before long, inspiration arrives. You know what is next. Where did it come from? From the vibration of Iq’. –Tat Juan Carlos Romero
Diana’s Observations:
Iq’—nawal of wind and communication—moves with the expansive current of Power 12 today. As great liberator and purifier, Iq’ sweeps through stagnancy and brings renewal. Its revitalizing breath extends with 12’s enlarging force, setting the wind of life in motion across a wider field. On 12 Iq’, imagination and vibration magnify, touching and inspiring the many.
Invigorating and animating the weave of the B’atz Trecena, 12 Iq’ reveals the sacred art of language as living act and subtle reformation. Awareness that first stirred within the self now integrates and widens, making room for further growth. Concepts and insights, conversations and plans rise and ripen to break new ground. The spirit, alive in its craft, stands at a point of maturity, where potential settles into a lived, shared experience.
When Iq’ distorts, the same wind that carries liberation can feel stalled, tangled, or turned against itself. Vitality pulls back, and the current that should move through us begins to stagnate inside. In this, tone 12 supports a fuller understanding of the pattern at work. Maturity, in the field of 12, is not the absence of distortion but the willingness to turn toward it—patiently unknotting repression, the places we’ve agreed to stay small, the moments when our own words have turned against us. The artist of consciousness learns to recognize these spells on the tongue and in the mind, and to re‑weave them with the true self.
Today, expansion is one pole in a living rhythm with contraction, like the breath of the cosmos. The imagination can lean toward either side of that breath. We’re invited to call the wind of renewal inward, to let it circulate through the body and purify the creations we carry into the world—thought, truth, song, prayer—so passion can widen and lift the frequency of the day. What has matured through the weaving of this cycle is now exalted through expression, surpassing what came before and carrying its harmony across the field, out in all directions.
Hummingbird Spirit Animal:
The Hummingbird, known as Ts’unu’um in Yucatec Maya, holds a sacred status as a divine messenger and symbol of resurrection. According to a prominent Mayan legend, the gods created the hummingbird last, after running out of clay and corn, by simply carving a tiny arrow from a piece of jade and bringing it to life with a divine breath.
This origin story establishes the hummingbird as the courier of the gods, tasked with carrying the wishes and thoughts of humans from one place to another, symbolizing the connection between the earthly and celestial realms.
Its famous ability to enter a state of torpor (a deep, near-death sleep) and seemingly be “reborn” aligns it with themes of resurrection, endurance, and fierce, focused energy. Its agility and tireless pursuit of nectar also embody vitality, joy, and the relentless strength of will admired in warriors and expressed in the Aztec god Huitzilopochtli, whose name means “Hummingbird on the Left.”
The Hummingbird spirit animal is also called upon as a messenger of healing and to help one overcome the past by flying backward only momentarily, always moving forward with purpose.
Observations by Mayan Spiritual Guides:
12 Iq’
The energy of 12 Iq’ could be seen as providing an understanding of how to embrace a sudden change based on previous experiences.
It could also be a day to use the experience you have gained through your life to motivate and inspire others through your words. The nawal Iq’ has the power to inspire, after all, it is the breath of life itself, the divine breath, moving through us, animating us and bringing movement into the world. –Mark Elmy12 Iq’
Within the chain of creation, Iq’ is the energy that allows us to transcend the limits of the mind in order to transmute our reality. The power of this energy strengthens the power that emerges from Imox, for the wind of Iq’ helps us liberate and purify ourselves, guiding us beyond the limitations in which we confine ourselves, especially on the mental plane, so we may connect with other states, break through the limits of this physical world, and thus create our reality.
Much of the work of Iq’ lies in developing complete trust. When we are able to hold total certainty that we will achieve what we seek, breaking through the limits of doubt and the rationalization of our possibilities, it is then that we awaken the power to materialize our reality. –Denise Barrios
