13 Ways the Maya Cosmovision Has Changed How I Perceive Existence
Special Edition: Integrating 5 (Gregorian) Years of Sacred Time Studies
On this day of 12 I’x—an energy of synthesis, integration, and collective magic—I pause to reflect on five years spent Walking the White Road of Mayan wisdom, a path that has continually reshaped my western perception of life. In honor of this recent milestone, I offer 13 insights from the Maya Cosmovision that have changed my way of seeing reality.
1. Space & Time as a Spiral
Time is not linear—it moves in a macro spiral, reflecting the spiraling motion of our Milky Way Galaxy. Najt is the seamless weaving of space and time. Where western thought separates the two, for the Maya they are one unified fabric, intricately interlaced and inseparable.
2. Nested Cycles Within Cycles
Just as the stars near the Galactic Center orbit more swiftly than those on the outer edges, the Sacred Calendar is a smaller, faster spiral set within larger, slower spiraling cycles—such as the longer-count calendars.
3. Nawales: Galactic Codes of Reality
According to ancestral oral tradition, the twenty nawales embody not only terrestrial and cosmic energies, but also emanations from other galactic systems!
Note: Recently, an elder shared that “nawal / nagual” is a Mexíca/Aztec/Nahuatl term; in K’iche’ Maya, the correct word for these sacred forces is “Kieb’awil”.
4. Sacred Rhythms for All Humanity
As taught by the Mayan elders, all of humanity—not only the Mesoamerican—moves within the sacred rhythm of these calendars. These energies are etched across the face of the Earth, inscribing patterns of time, matter, and spirit upon every land and being.
5. Calendars and Collective Agreements
Synchronizing our time and energy through the Gregorian calendar is not inherently negative or “obsolete”; it is simply the collective agreement that structures modern life. Yet the Mayan calendrical systems offer a far more elegant and advanced understanding of cosmic order and time as expressed through nature and human existence.
6. The Cycle of History and Renewal
History is cyclical. Patterns of opportunity, challenge, and renewal return through sacred mathematical sequences—13, 20, 52, 72, 260, 360, 400, and beyond—each shaping both individual lives and collective evolution.
7. Unseen Forces We Make Visible
Nawales are occult forces made visible through nature and human experience. The 13 numbers give each of the 20 nawales a specific capacity, composing 260 unique energetic expressions of creation–through us!
8. Tones & Harmonies in Every Hour
Even the hours and minutes of the day can be aligned with particular nawales, each carrying its own potential and resonance. In Mayan Natal Cross readings offered by Ajq’ijaab, the hour of our birth is also linked to a specific nawal, deepening the layers of our energetic makeup.
9. The Reality of Duality
Every nawal embodies a sacred duality, and within each of us, all twenty nawales dwell in our body and consciousness. In a world divided by conflict and judgment, the wisdom of the Cholq’ij has taught me to understand my own duality, and in doing so, I am better able to embrace the fullness of existence—not with separation, but with deeper awareness and an open heart, learning to love every facet and expression of creation.
10. Balance of Perception
By recognizing this inherent duality, we become better able to hold society’s tensions—and even those we might label as “bad”—with deeper acceptance and curiosity, meeting every complexity with understanding, respect, and a balanced awareness of how energy flows through all things.
11. The Sacred Four Races
There are four primary human races—red, white, black, and yellow—each linked to a cardinal direction and its guardian, entrusted with a unique potential or task in the unfolding of life. The Hopi tradition also honors these four races, describing their sacred responsibilities and teachings for humanity’s evolution.
12. Threads of Expression
Each person’s singular expression is like a thread—shaped by the Ch’umil (sacred star energy) with which they were born—intricately woven into the vast fabric of existence, so that every action they take ripples outward, touching and affecting the entire tapestry. Do you know yours yet?
13. Dawn of the Oxlajuj’ Era
After the Baktun (Long Count) shift of 2012, humanity transitioned from Kablajuj’ (12) to Oxlajuj’ (13)—a sacred cycle of 400 years, each year spanning 360 days. This era draws humanity closer to cosmic intelligence, awakening perception, intuition, telepathy, and the flowering of divine innovation and magic. It is a time for energetic transformation, refined expression, and weaving celestial consciousness into the living tapestry of existence on Earth.

Beautiful. I always enjoy the meta analysis of things. So many of these syncronicities are seen in my personal work and life which is why the cholj'ir resonates so much. I'm grateful for you and your walking of the White Road🙏
Congratulations on your five years of spiral time on your spiral journey. Enjoyed your post so much!
