B’atz is the nawal of the arts, artists, and the art of weaving, and as such, represents all concepts and elements of life related to art and weaving, from time itself–called by the Maya “the thread of life”–to the life-connecting umbilical cord. –Brigitte Rasine
Diana’s Observations:
Today, B’atz—the nawal of creativity, joy, and connection—intertwines with the dual nature of Power 2. B’atz awakens artistic expression and inspires the weaving together of people and possibilities to resolve, heal, and beautify, while the relating force of 2 draws people and choices into colorful cooperation. On 2 B’atz, the art of relating is activated and brought into the spotlight.
As we begin our journey through the fidelity-seeking Tz’i Trecena, 2 B’atz draws our attention to the balance and polarity within the self, revealed through the mirror of relationship. This energy illuminates how our ability to recognize and act from sovereignty is deeply influenced by the quality of our connections. To truly know ourselves—our boundaries, our truth, and our capacity for self-leadership—we must often first see our reflection in others and the dynamics of our relationships.
Whether complementary or polarizing, the energies of this day can deepen marriages, partnerships, or collaborations and open opportunities for mutually beneficial choices. In its warmer aspect, 2 B’atz brings celebratory harmony that leaves lasting imprints of love and joy upon the heart and spirit. Should complications or entanglements arise—also within the domain of B’atz—the influence of 2 encourages patient, measured actions to gently unravel tension between opposites.
B’atz teaches that true innovation arises when creativity and mindful solutions meet in a spirit of curiosity and collaboration. Under the guidance of Tz’i, this day offers a vivid reminder of the law that we are in relationship at all times—woven into the fabric of life, never truly isolated, even in solitude. Alternatively, when we rely on others to complete our happiness, we drift toward possession rather than genuine love. Ultimately, 2 B’atz asks us to honor the tension of opposites while choosing creative, conscious relationship as the thread from which we continually weave our shared humanity.

Monkey Spirit Animal:
The Monkey held a complex and revered place in the sacred arts and mythologies of the great central civilizations, symbolizing both creativity and failure. In narratives of creation, monkeys often represent an earlier, failed attempt by the gods to fashion humankind, and are therefore seen as the primal ancestors of art, music, and dance.
Specific monkey deities, like the Howler and Spider Monkeys, were patrons of scribes, sculptors, and artists, embodying intelligence, joyful mischief, and the energy of games. The monkey was associated with the god of flowers, fun, and the arts, often appearing in the underworld.
One can invoke the energy of the Monkey to ignite a spirit of lightheartedness and curiosity, to strengthen community and collaborative teamwork, and to unlock innovative and resourceful problem-solving for creative endeavors.
Observations by Mayan Spiritual Guides:
2 B’atz
If there is a nawal with the energy to inspire us to create beauty, it is the nawal B’atz. It brings the energy to create, and what it creates, it usually does so with great talent. It is the weaver, not just of the everyday material, but of reality itself.Today it is combined with the number 2, representing opposing principles. They may be male and female, light and dark, horizontal and vertical, fire and water, but today comes the opportunity to create something exquisite from them.
This could also be seen as the combination of the right brain and left brain working together, the artistic and the logical.
This may take a little sacrifice, not all of the original inspiration fits into the structure, or the original structure has to change to accommodate the artistic. In whichever way it is put together, the result may truly be a marvel.
It is an auspicious day to begin to weave something beautiful together with another person. After all, this is also the trecena of Tz’i, the nawal of unconditional love. –Mark Elmy
2 B’atz
To love fully, we must be willing to open our hearts completely. We are now walking through the trecena of Tz’i’, which reminds us that we are whole beings, with all our capacities, abilities, and feelings, with everything we need to walk through life. Its energy intertwines today with that of Keb’ B’atz, which brings the thread of love, of union, and of integration.
This convergence reminds us that loving is opening ourselves to feeling, to feel without trying to control, without closing ourselves to what arises within, and from there to walk with an open heart, allowing ourselves to be guided by what connects us, remembering that there is no separation and that we are part of the same fabric.
The energy of this day helps us find love, strengthen our bond with our partner, or heal our relationships. Today we can light a red candle so that through it the energy of love may be kindled, both the love we share with others and the love we cultivate within ourselves. –Denise Barrios
