The 4 leans very much to the practical world and gives us the solid foundation on which all physical existence is based. Its combination with Tz’i gives a feeling of dependability, a solid and honest energy, bringing justice to the physical world. -Mark Elmy
Tz’i: Law, Authority, Justice, Fidelity, Scripture, Order, Social Law, Guide, Cultivating Love

4 (Kajib’): 4 symbolizes the totality, integrity, stability and sacred geometries inherent to natural and astronomical cycles:
there are four cardinal points, the four elements (fire, water, earth and air), four seasons of the year, four key points of proximity of the Sun to the Earth (the solstices and equinoxes), and four phases of the day (morning, afternoon, twilight and night).
4 is also the number of dimensions in which we experience most conscious life. 4 is associated with Ajaw, the Sun god as cosmic lord.
In Mayan mythology, there are 4 pillars that support the Earth and the Sky; Four paths that lead to Xibalbà, the Mayan underworld.
4 also represents the four colors of corn: red, yellow, black and white, which correspond to the four cardinal points from East to South, West and North, as well as the four races of humanity: American Indians, Indo-Europeans, Africans and Asians.
There is also evidence that the Mayans of the Classic period divided the Universe into four sections marked by the intersections of the Milky Way with the ecliptic. To this day, the Mayans place their Ritual Altars in a four-point pattern.
Power 4 can help one draw on their inner integrity in order to manifest various strengths, capacities and potentialities.
4 carries a stable, grounded energy that helps set the guidelines for all types of relationships and interactions, whether on a personal, social, economic, political or other level.
Tz’i Glyph: This glyph signifies the staff used by indigenous authorities, as well as a dog’s tail. It is spiritual law that cannot be bought or sold.
Tz’i is spiritual law and the law of man. It is the guardian of material and spiritual law.
It represents those who govern on a local or national level. It represents spiritual authorities and the straight path. It is justice and the day that brings truth to light.
It symbolizes fidelity, order, and precision and is represented by the cosmic authorities whose energy is on the Earth, whether in the form of people or places. Great pyramids and natural altars are dedicated to these sacred authorities.
Tz’i also means dog, which acts as a secretary, assistant, and adviser. This is the Creator’s representative on Earth who is in charge of applying and enforcing justice. This energy is also related to writing, particularly sacred writing. It is the symbol of great scribes. –Carlos Barrios
4 Tz’i
The day 4 Tz’i may come as a welcome relief after the challenges faced yesterday. If those challenges caused you to lose faith in yourself or your world, here is the nawal Tz’i to restore it.It is a day where you may find your faith in your journey restored and strengthened by your experiences.
It is a day where the instinct serves to bring stable guidance in your journey. It is a day when the natural laws of the world are balanced, and true justice may be seen. –Mark Elmy
4 Tz’i
We all have the ability to live with awareness, presence, authenticity, sovereignty, and connection to our divinity. The convergence of Kajib’ Tz’i’ with the trecena of Kej reminds us that we shine in this world by being authentic. There’s no need to imitate others or adjust who we are just to fit in. We are the very expression of divinity, so let us not doubt that within each of us resides great power. Let us seek the inspiration and drive to awaken it. –Denise Barrios
Dog Spirit Animal:
“Awareness”, “Loyalty”, “Power to Protect”, “Fidelity”, “Unconditional Love”
Dog spirit always reminds you to maintain your integrity and faithfulness with all the gentle souls that share your life, both human and animal. This bit of animal medicine is true for yourself, too – you cannot be a good friend to others without having the same relationship with yourself.
The Dog Power Animal is fiercely devoted, loving, and protective.
Invoke Dog as your Power Animal when you need support staying strong in your drive to serve humankind. Burnout is no fun, and Dog Medicine teaches us that it’s OK to stop and chase a Frisbee every once in a while.
Dog, as a Power Animal, is a perfect partner for being the most giving and altruistic as possible.
Each Dog is as unique as humans. Their personalities shine in their deeds and demeanor. No matter what, Dog seems to understand its place and purpose. They are your friend, your protector, your comfort. You, too, have a purpose. Never lose sight of it.
When you watch a dog playing, it’s impossible to miss the joy it brings.
There is no tomorrow, there is only now. Dog Spirit reminds us to live in the moment so we don’t overlook small things, particularly blessings.
Diana’s Notes:
As the Kej Trecena focuses on bringing equilibrium and harmony to any aspect of our life, today’s 4 echoes and amplifies that energy as Kej and the number 4 are linked together:
“Kej is the nawal of harmony. With one foot in each of the four cardinal points and four basic elements (Fire, Earth, Air, and Water), it brings balance and equilibrium. It also represents the four manifestations of humans: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Kej signifies the four pillars that hold up the earth and sky, and the knowledge of power through physical existence.”
With Tz’i combined, generally representing order through fidelity, faith, law, and unconditional love, we can see how the virtues of solidity and dependability come into play, as well as the dog’s guidance towards service and altruism.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who is slowly coming back into the momentum of work life, service and goals after the holidays, and after everything that came up emotionally during that time.
During these last few days, my physical body felt a bit exhausted and yesterday’s 3 Toj energy (giving back to ourselves) felt like an important guidance and permission slip to take it easy on myself, as I have the tendency to over give without too much pause in between.
Today, I do feel aligned with the 4 – more stable and ready to bring renewed life into my workflow, purpose and mission.
On a deeper level, I am also inclined towards reevaluating ‘structures’. The number 4 also represents planning, systematizing, and refining the intelligence of the structures of workflow.
I feel Kej, Tz’i and 4 are subtly bringing this awareness into my field. When I have a clear plan and structure, I do feel stronger ‘in the moment’ and more determined (Kej) to proceed.
Interweaved with all that, both 4 and Kej remind me about the importance of going outdoors often to ground and connect with the strength of the natural world to fully replenish my forces to get back into full gear.
Not long ago, I wrote this prose-style poem, inspired by Kej, as a self-reminder:
Nature speaks to us through rhythm,
pulsating harmony.
Being Nature ourselves,
the wild shows us
where we’re out of our natural rhythm –
our own harmony.
What in my life needs more order and refined planning - particularly in the physical / material plane? How can I stabilize and solidify trust and dependability between myself and those around me?
I love the symbolism of 4 in the Maya culture and the many ways it manifests itself.
