No’j turns knowledge and experience into wisdom. It is the connection between the Universal Cosmic Mind and the human mind–intellect, knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual learning. No’j is the guide to life as long as all experience and knowledge are imparted in wisdom. People have good ideas but aren’t wise and therefore need to meet as council in order to share them, develop theories, and ask Ajaw for wisdom. The Elders meet as a council under the protection of No’j. –Carlos Barrios

Woodpecker Spirit Animal:
The Woodpecker in Maya tradition is primarily linked to the act of striking, piercing, and revealing what is hidden, with its loud drumming symbolizing a rhythmic connection to the earth's heartbeat or a spiritual announcement. Its traits—particularly its ability to aggressively expose the interior of wood—are mirrored in the mythology of powerful birds.
In a Yucatec Maya legend, the woodpecker is said to have been an emissary of the rain god, Chaac, sent to find the sacred corn seed hidden within a stone or mountain. During this vital quest, the bird was struck on the head, staining its feathers red and establishing a direct link between the woodpecker's persistent pecking and the discovery of sustenance and life-giving resources.
In the broader context of Yucatec Maya culture, the woodpecker, which the Maya call chej (meaning "wood rumble"), is revered for its ecological role as an expert controller of pests and a signal of a healthy forest ecosystem. The bird's unique, percussive communication method is a metaphor for discovering concealed truths, much like a shaman or prophet must "tap" through the surface of reality to find hidden knowledge or foretell the future.
The woodpecker’s diligence in excavating its nest or finding food establishes it as a practical spirit of persistence, labor, and domestic security. The Woodpecker Spirit animal is called upon when one needs unyielding persistence to break through a frustrating obstacle or a creative block by simply "pecking away" until success is achieved. It also brings the message to look beneath the surface of a situation to discover hidden opportunities or to reveal the root of a long-standing problem.
Observations by Mayan Spiritual Guides:
7 No’j
The energy of the day 7 No’j may see knowledge and theories from different sources coalescing to form one combined idea as the plan is finalized.
These plans may be coming from many directions, and it may lead to some confusion as to which ones to develop. This is the day to make the decision, from this vantage point you can see them all for what they are.The problem solving intellect of No’j and the balance and finality of the number 7 should give rise to extremely practical solutions for conclusion.
Within the cycle of the year are many sub-cycles. I often mention the cycle of the trecenas, but here is another, the 20 day cycle. The theme of this 20 day cycle, from 7 No’j to 1 No’j, should be finishing off one plan or set of ideas so that the new ideas can be born in the future.
So, not only should the energy of today highlight a drive to get things finished off, this should continue for the next 20 days. –Mark Elmy
7 No’j
This day manifests the power contained by Wuqub’ No’j, the Ch’umil of knowledge and wisdom. In the chain of creation, this energy is the one that brings forth the balance between the material reality and the magical reality. No’j is the power that integrates into our being each new learning, knowledge, and experience that arises from Ajmaq so that we can transform them into wisdom.
No’j has a rational part, the one that gives us logical thinking, but it also has a magical side that teaches us how to handle energies so that we have the power to create our reality. –Denise Barrios
