It also carries the four states of the human experience and the four colors of humanity: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual, and the colors of yellow, white, red, and black. –Brigitte Rasine
Diana’s Observations:
Today's nawal, Kej—the spirit of the stag—merges integrity and determination with the intuitive, emotive subtlety of Power 9. Kej embodies leadership, balance, and masculine action, while the energy of 9 softens and enriches these qualities with its artistic, feminine, and heart-centered tone. 9 Kej invites inner strength and power arising from intuition, love, and gentle wisdom.
Traditionally, Kej days honor Mayan religion and the Ajq’ij—the Mayan priest—calling forth strength, healing, and protection for the community. Aligned with the social spirit of the Kawoq Trecena, the gentle leadership qualities of 9 Kej invite interconnection and harmony, nurtured through art, beauty, and words sourced from the heart. Its essence guides us back to our true nature through artistic, expressive, and spiritual pathways.
As Kej offers stability through determined action, the energy of 9 encourages fulfillment through flexibility and adaptability in how we pursue results in our activities and interactions today. Whether our approach is stubborn or fluid, this process unfolds not only in our relationships, but also in our ideas and our ability to carry them out. Today's key is to ground our vision in reality while making harmony a lived experience.
Overall, 9 Kej’s feminine nature invites us to cultivate personal strength and creative power, shaping new ideas and realities. The staff of Kawoq—symbolizing authority and guidance—finds grounding today through women, mothers, female leaders, and feminine collectives. This subtle yet potent force offers particular strength to women and to the feminine dimension within all of us, enriching consciousness and nurturing new possibilities.

Stag Spirit Animal:
The stag symbolizes masculinity, regeneration, guidance, and connection to nature. Revered for its vitality and elegance, the male deer embodies wisdom and maturity, often appearing when needed most.
With their impressive antlers, stags represent strength, authority, and a deeper understanding of life. Stags respect boundaries and laws set by humans so they remind us about our social obligations, duties, responsibilities, time, and schedules.
Stag symbols show up when we need to act on our instincts and trust ourselves in order to get through life’s obstacles. We should not let fear guide us, but rather follow the stag totem and spirit animal guides’ path of strength and power with courage.
Observations by Mayan Spiritual Guides:
9 Kej
The day 9 Kej is extremely interesting for the reason of the nawal and number carrying the energy of opposites. Kej can be seen as being one of the most masculine of the nawales, representing strength, vitality and determination, which are “traditionally” seen as masculine traits.Today this is combined with the number 9, the most feminine of numbers, creating a situation whereby those “masculine” traits may be especially prevalent in women. It can result in a perfect balance of masculine and feminine energies.
Today there is a possibly more familiar archetype which so accurately fits the energy of the day, it may give a further understanding of the feel of the energy, that of the Greek goddess Artemis. She is the strong, empowered, independent woman, the huntress deeply connected with the forest and, of course, divinely connected.
Whilst she could be seen in general as the archetype aptly describing the energy of the number 9, today more than any other truly fits the bill, with the connection to the wilderness of Kej.
From the masculine side, this is also an empowering day where nature reminds you of the strength which can come through compassion. For everyone involved, the energy of today brings a beautiful balance between the masculine and feminine energies, all can benefit from the union of the polarities. –Mark Elmy
9 Kej
Today we are under the influence of Kej, the Ch’umil that reminds us we are connected to everything around us, that we are an integral part of creation. Its energy speaks to the importance of returning to what is simple, conscious and harmonious, doing so with a renewed vision.Kej also represents balance, the energy that holds the harmony between humanity and nature. It is the deer that stands with one foot in each of the four directions, its strength connecting us to the wisdom of the four B’alameb’ and the four Ixoq Ajawab’, the grandfathers and ancestral grandmothers who guide humanity.
Today, as Kej converges with B’elejeb’ and feminine wisdom and strength become present, a deep space of connection opens with the four ancestral Grandmothers, guardians of the four corners and the four elements. Alongside the B’alameb’, they are our guides and counselors. Let us open to receive their wisdom, honor them and call upon them, for they are a source of knowledge.
Let us allow the strength of the Sacred Grandmothers to reveal what we need to understand for our path, to reconnect us with our inner power and magic. Let us give thanks for their light and their guidance, which brings us back to a conscious state and helps us see life with new eyes. –Denise Barrios
