Kej Glyph: The glyph represents a closed hand creating a circuit of energy that charges the four cardinal points, as represented by the four fingers, boosted by the thumb. –Carlos Barrios
Kej personifies the fourfold nature of the Universe and the solid, integral, untamed vitality of the natural world. The four legs of the mighty stag symbolize the four cardinal directions and the four elements—fire, earth, air, and water—which together uphold and sustain all existence. These fundamental forces not only shape reality but also influence the course of human destiny.
Kej also embodies leadership and equanimity—qualities that arise from harmonizing the four dimensions of human experience: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. While the preceding I’x Trecena awakened the subtle, feminine realms, Kej brings this energy into structure and masculine action. It applies, asserts, and tangibly forms the insights gained from I’x.
With the stag’s legs firmly grounded on the four pillars of existence, Kej expresses equilibrium and enduring foundations formed by the four corners of the Universe. In both its stance and movement, Kej exemplifies honor, respect, authentic power, and unwavering determination. –Diana P.
1 Kej
Today is Jun (1) Kej, kicking off a new Trecena (13-Day cycle theme) .
1 is birth and beginnings.
In human expression, solidity symbolizes reliability and honor. This 13-day cycle is ideal for adhering to commitments, embracing responsibility, and fully taking charge of our destiny. Kej’s masculine, disciplined essence ignites executive drive, infusing us with vitality and resilience.
Though dynamic and resolute, it teaches balance between personal power and humility. Kej’s strength can sometimes manifest as stubbornness or rigidity, challenging us to recognize when determination turns to dominance or inflexibility. Inviting adaptability, it shows us how to harness willpower without becoming trapped by it. Kej’s purpose is to ground us firmly in the four foundations of existence—helping integrate these dimensions as we pursue our goals.
This Trecena develops autonomy and leadership, promoting achievement through dedicated effort, maturity, and physical endurance. It inspires us to carry life forward with deep respect for ourselves, others, and our beautiful home planet, cultivating harmony across all dimensions of existence. Additionally, Kej brings an ideal time to recharge and harmonize our four bodies with Nature’s intelligence. –Diana P.
Kej Mesoamerican Mythos:
[Excerpts]
"To the Maya, the deer was not perceived in terms of a soft dappled fawn, but as a mighty stag, lord of the forest. The deer was one of the most powerful of all animals. When the conquistadors first arrived in the Mayan country, the natives thought that their horses were a close relative of the mighty deer, so they called it by the same name. In fact, to this very day, the K'iche' word 'kej' means both horse and deer.
The deer is sometimes said to hold up earth and sky; it is the guardian of the forests and of nature in general, symbolic of all the raw power inherent in wild nature itself. This power can be equated with the natural energy that moves and animates the four directions or four quarters of the universe, the Medicine Wheel.
According to the Maya, we live in a fourfold world, a fourfold reality. In this universal quaternity is embodied the energy of the four elements, and the four manifestations of human beings: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.
Interestingly enough, Jungian psychology also asserts that the human psyche is composed of four elements or functions."
"In the migration legends of the Pop Wuj, the original people were led by four men. These first forefathers were created directly by the gods, who also created their four wives. Thus the four is doubled in terms of yin and yang to equal the number 8, and it is upon days numbered 8 that the most important rituals are performed by contemporary Daykeepers."

Stag Spirit Animal:
Stags have been represented in many ancient myths, folktales, and mythology throughout the world since they are native to every continent except Antarctica and Australia.
The stag is a symbol of vitality, manliness, elegance, instinct, maturity regeneration, and spiritual enlightenment. Among the animals, the male deer is revered. They are wise and seasoned with huge antler crowns on their shoulders that they’ve conquered in life. The male deer are reclusive in nature, and this makes them appear out of nowhere only when we need them the most.
A stag can also be seen as a symbol of strength, power, and authority. The deer’s antlers emblems of male fertility. They are often considered to have wisdom beyond their years due to living longer than human beings.
Stags respect boundaries and laws set by humans so they remind us about our social obligations, duties, responsibilities, time, and schedules. We may feel the stag spirit animal is showing up in our lives to remind us about some of these things, so we need to pay attention to where boundaries are set and follow them without question.
Stag symbols show up when we need to act on our instincts and trust ourselves in order to get through life’s obstacles. We should not let fear guide us, but rather follow the stag totem and spirit animal guides’ path of strength and power with courage.
