2 Kan: Navigating Choices in Attachments, Igniting Inner Wisdom

The number 2 can represent duality, so today we might see both faces of the nawal Kan. One face is wise and noble, the other dark and manipulative. It is our choice which to embrace. However, each is equally available, but the consequences will be ours to deal with. –Mark Elmy

Kan: Associated with the mystical Feathered Serpent, Kukulkan or Quetzalcoatl, it is one of the most powerful day signs in the Cholq’ij.
As the Regent of the Sky and the Ruler of Time, Kan symbolizes the transformation of time, transcendence, peace, spiritual development and human evolution, and represents those predestined for spiritual vocations.
Yet it is also the lord of all material things and represents the concepts of work, autonomy, precaution, power, law, intelligence, and justice. As the nawal of education and training, it signifies the power that learning imparts to individuals and communities.
[Kan] embodies a powerful connection with the inner fire, called koyopa among the Maya and kundalini in Eastern traditions. –Brigitte Rasine
Diana’s Observations:
Today’s 2 Kan, under the guiding influence of the K'at Trecena, presents a dynamic interplay between movement and pause, particularly in the realm of choices and relationships. The dual nature of 2 emphasizes partnerships, complementarity, and the need for self-reflection, inviting us to weigh our decisions carefully and consider the polarities at play. This energy can highlight both the fertile ground of unity and growth, as well as the burdens of unhealthy entanglements.
Kan, symbolizing life force and vitality, ignites our inner fire, which can manifest as agility, intelligence, and passion. This ascending energy offers the potential for profound transformation and transmutation, guiding us to channel our life force and sexual energy towards personal evolution.
As we navigate this day, we’re invited to listen to our body's intelligence, allowing it to inform our path forward. The emphasis on duality and relationships prompts us to pause, reflect on the weight of our responsibilities and attachments, and discern potential illusions or traps. This reflective process is akin to a strategic chess player, who carefully considers the implications of each move. It invites us to reassess what may be hindering our growth and redirect our decisions with discernment.
Ultimately, K'at’s overarching theme of release and liberation supports us in shedding what no longer serves our growth. Today marks the beginning of a process to untangle ourselves from knots, particularly by reevaluating our connections, decisions, and navigating tests in relationships.
Traditionally, Kan days are dedicated to cultivating good thoughts and ideas, seeking strength and wisdom to bring greater balance and justice into our lives. As a symbol of both peace and upheaval, it is also a day to pray for equilibrium in both our bodies and the natural world.
Observations by Mayan Spiritual Guides:
2 Kan
The energy of 2 Kan gives us the chance to gain wisdom from the duality of the world. It may be that the dark side of serpent energy has been employed to manipulate and seduce, its hypnotic ability pulling the unwary into its illusion. The number 2 makes it possible to see both sides, the truth and the falsehood, dispelling the illusion. It is time to see them for what they are and learn from them.
The nawal Kan highlights the life force energy that flows through us. Here we see it in combination with the number of relationships. It suggests that the energy of today may help to bring our a deeper wisdom through sharing our life force energy with our partner. –Mark Elmy2 Kan
On this cycle of 20 days of conformation of the energies that created the universe, today we receive the power of Ajaw 2 Kan.“On 2 Kan it happened that bad things arose and they could be seen in the eyes of people.” -Chilam B’alam de Chumayel, Mayan Yucatec Text.
The wisdom of Kan arises to remind us that we are more than a physical expression, we are energy. Kan tells us that as the energy we are we have the power to reach our highest potential.Kan is the one who teaches us that prayer can become a miracle, thought can become reality, knowledge can become wisdom, Kan is the ascension of things, it is the feathered serpent that emerges from the earth to reach the cosmic level.
Kan, who symbolizes the serpent, not only speaks to us of the power we have in our energy, movement, and action, but also teaches us that like the serpent we all have the power of transmutation, that we can shed the skin of our old patterns, of the feelings, thoughts, and beliefs that no longer contribute to our development, that we all have the ability and the power to transform ourselves. –Denise Barrios

The Kundalini, Ouroboros, the Aztec Quetzalcoatl, and a myriad of snake deities symbolize the creation of the inner and outer cosmos in numerous cultures.
Receiving snake medicine is akin to receiving an invitation to embark as the winds of change approach. “Bon Voyage” says the cosmos as you enter into an experience that shifts your course. From external environment and relationships all the way up to awareness level, there is potential for change.
With change comes letting go, so prepare yourself with one of the sagest of practices: detachment.
Through snake medicine, you are gently informed that soon you’ll be riding the wave of transformation so be aware and enjoy. Letting go allows fresh currents to push new creation towards you. –Brynja Magnusson
What decisions require my careful consideration today, and how can I apply discernment and foresight to choose paths that align with my highest potential? How can I tap into my body's intelligence to guide me towards more harmonious and fulfilling choices?
