No’j Glyph: The glyph of No’j has two parts: one stone above, one stone below. Epigraphists identify this as the deity of the Moon — yet it is also the deity of the Earth. It is a braiding of the lunar deity falling across the cheek, at times read as an eye — a descent of information, connected to the Moon above and the Earth below.
It tells us that Mother Earth is processing a vast amount of information. And it is that information which ultimately takes form: it becomes Earth, it materializes.
No’j is translated as thought — but it is far more than that. It is the creative idea. Reason. Opinion. Conviction. Intelligence. All of these belong to the reign of thought, and yet No’j reaches beyond even the intellectual apparatus. To understand No’j more fully, we look at what other languages call this nawal.
In Yucatec Maya, it is Caban — a word carrying a different resonance. Cab means world, region, one’s own land — my land. An is the sound the Earth makes when it trembles. Going further, we arrive at the Nahuatl equivalent: Ollin — movement. A word with its root in heart.
The Mesoamerican cultures communicated with one another and shared the same foundational substrata. From those cultural roots, a link emerges across languages: Thought. Earth. Movement. Heart.

2 No’j:
2 No’j calls for intelligent refinement. Keb’ arrives as sharp discernment — awareness of contrasting choices or paths. No’j is thought itself: the essential creative force that shapes the visible world into being. Together, 2 No’j asks us to bring the blade of discernment to the mind.
Not every thought that arrives is true or useful. Some carry real information; others are static that don’t offer much. Within the Ajmaq Trecena’s theme of purification, 2 No’j narrows that work inward — sorting what serves clarity from reactive or excess thinking. This is the slow, deliberate consciousness that knows what to carefully cut — and when to simply wait before responding at all.
Today may bring an urge to simplify. To cut out any clutter weighing down the heart and mind, causing us to carry more than what we need to be present, especially with ourselves. This can be today’s sacred work. What becomes clearer once we set the excess down? –Diana P.
Woodpecker Spirit Animal:
The Woodpecker held a compelling position in the spirituality of some central indigenous cultures, revered primarily for its unwavering persistence and unique power to communicate with the world beneath the surface.
The bird’s incessant, rhythmic drumming was widely interpreted as the “heartbeat of the Earth”, a sacred form of communication that could signal important forthcoming events, good fortune, or even a deep spiritual truth hiding just beneath the “bark” of reality. Traditions view it as a helpful spirit that brings healing, nobility, protection, and perseverance to the home and community.
One can invoke the spirit of the Woodpecker to find breakthroughs in persistent challenges, to develop the focus and resilience needed for difficult long-term goals, and to uncover hidden knowledge or opportunities by digging beneath superficial appearances.
2 No’j Prayer
Sacred Keb’ No’j, principle of refinement and wisdom, I ask for your support in releasing what I’m not — beginning in my thoughts.
May your prudence and discernment reveal what rises from the heart, and what is only noise that no longer serves my authenticity. May I return, thought by thought, to what is true and useful for my growth.
✍🏼 Contemplation:
What decision is asking for pause and reflection?
How can I train my mind to slow down before it responds?
