Kej: Embodying stability and balance, Kej is the nawal of the four cardinal points of the Earth and represents the four primary elements of earth, water, fire, and air. It also carries the four states of the human experience and the four colors of humanity: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual, and the colors of yellow, white, red, and black.
On Kej days, the Maya pray for harmony throughout the natural world and among all human beings–these are propitious days to ask for strength to avoid betrayal and handle the difficulties in our lives. –Brigitte Rasine
Diana’s Observations:
Today, the energy of 4 Kej embodies the majestic strength and stability of the deer, symbolizing firmness and equilibrium as we journey towards liberation and new beginnings. This powerful presence is epitomized by a firm stance on four legs, poised to move forward into new territory with support, grace and determination.
This day emblematically represents the four cardinal directions, the four planes of existence—physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual—and the four elements that nourish life. It signifies the solid foundations and structures we build to support our endeavors, while cultivating spiritual authority, masculine tenacity, and a deep connection to the raw intelligence of nature.
As the guardian of the east, where each new day begins with the rising Sun, Kej embodies balance and stability, guiding us towards renewal and new beginnings. This is especially poignant as we approach the start of the Cholq'ij New Year cycle on 8 B'atz.
Today is marked by a harmonious blend of stillness and balance, alongside dynamic movement and humble service towards a clear vision of the future. Its force embodies integrity and a readiness to evolve, reflecting the positive aspects of what is in harmonious balance within our lives and ready to move forward.
Under the influence of the K'at Trecena, today's energy invites us to build upon reliability, integrity, and physical movement. This involves an active interplay between active expression and stable rootedness in our personal and communal endeavors. By doing so, we nurture our spiritual resilience as we release what no longer serves us, while gathering resources to cultivate a sense of abundance and harvest in our lives.
This is an auspicious time to anchor the insights and courage of yesterday's 3 Kame, grounding our vision with our feet firmly planted on the ground. The overarching energy of K'at invites us to continue releasing the burdens of the past, while Kej empowers us to break through stagnation, clearing the path towards liberation and prosperity.
Physically, today's energy encourages us to step out of static routines and rejuvenate our personal foundations by connecting with the raw, revitalizing forces of nature. Just as the mighty stag navigates its forest home with agility, strength and grace, we too have the power to navigate our lives with renewed clarity and purpose.
Observations by Mayan Spiritual Guides:
4 Kej
This day represents the four first men, Balam Kitze, Balam Acab, Majutujaj and Balam Ikim. These were the four first humans created and were seen as the founders of the patrilineages. As such they formed the base for all who followed them, and their stability allowed the human race to flourish.
Kej brings the strength to make the difference, but the number 4 tempers it to bring this strength in a carefully measured, balanced way. It is strength empowered by the qualities of the four directions – vitality, wisdom, spirit and healing – which brings the material world into being.Today the strength of Kej should be particularly useful today. This day can represent a strong foundation, or an energy of bringing strength and stability to a situation. It is a day to step forward and take charge of matters if they need resolving.
The nawal Kej is known for its strength, which sometimes can become a little domineering. It is not necessarily meant that way. After all, it is a nawal of spiritual leadership and truly has the interests of its followers at heart. –Mark Elmy
4 Kej
In this cycle of 20 days during which we receive the cosmic and telluric force of each of the 20 Ch’umilal, today we absorb the power of Ajaw 4 Kej.“4 Kej is the day in which the spirit came.” -Chilam B’alam of Chumayel, Maya Yucatec text.
Ajaw Kej manifests the energy of Rax Kaqulja’, the green-ray of the expression of nature, the powerful force of Mother Earth. This Ch’umil is symbolized by the deer, who is the guardian of the forests, who represents harmony and calmness. Kej is the creation that manifests harmoniously in each of the elements of nature.
It is understanding that we are also a manifestation of nature, remembering that we form part of her and that we must harmonize ourselves with her, that we must return to the consciousness of knowing that our destiny is bound to the destiny of all living beings, that we should be connected to the wisdom of the plants and trees, of our brother animals, to the strength and power that comes from Mother Earth.
Our calling during these times is to protect our Mother, the Earth, to have the awareness that we are united to her, that we are an integral part of creation, that she is the one that provides all the elements we need for our subsistence and development.
Today I want to remember the words of Carlos, my father, “The spirituality of these times has a name, and that is ACTION.”
If you have the chance, go out to nature, connect with her, observe the beauty of the forests, of the mountains, hug your brothers the trees to absorb their teachings, connect to the four elements, walk barefoot on earth to stay connected to her. –Denise Barrios
Stag Spirit Animal: “Masculinity, Regeneration, Guidance, Gentleness, Connection to the Earth, Alertness, Independence, Strength, Nobility”
The stag is a symbol of vitality, manliness, elegance, instinct, maturity regeneration, and spiritual enlightenment. Among the animals, the male deer is revered. They are wise and seasoned with huge antler crowns on their shoulders that they’ve conquered in life. Their antlers are emblems of male fertility. They are often considered to have wisdom beyond their years due to living longer than human beings.
The male deer are reclusive in nature, and this makes them appear out of nowhere only when we need them the most. A stag can also be seen as a symbol of strength, power, and authority.
Stag symbols show up when we need to act on our instincts and trust ourselves in order to get through life’s obstacles. We should not let fear guide us, but rather follow the stag totem and spirit animal guides’ path of strength and power with courage.
Stags respect boundaries and laws set by humans so they remind us about our social obligations, duties, responsibilities, time, and schedules. We may feel the stag spirit animal is showing up in our lives to remind us about some of these things, so we need to pay attention to where boundaries are set and follow them without question.
In what areas of my life can I cultivate greater equilibrium today, and how can I maintain this balance amidst change? How can I ground my vision and intentions firmly in reality, ensuring they are supported by solid foundations?
Boundaries is big work for me right now. I appreciate this affirmation from stag to pay attention to and follow the boundaries set. 🙌🏽
